History of Film _ Film Journals (vocabulary & writing prompts)
When do I have to write about the films I see in class?
You will always have to write at least something with in every genre we explore. However, those responses will vary based on the journal prompt and the intension for the project. Sometimes, I will require a more formal response (like the one we’re doing for Citizen Kane) and others I’ll just have you do a rush-write of your thoughts of a film of your choice within a particular genre through a much less involved prompt. It will depend on the movie we’re watching that day and how you’re acting during the film.
What do I have to write about the films I see in class?
For each genre that we watch in class, I will give you a Film Journal/Log. This sheet of paper will provide you with relevant vocabulary for your journal writing and your journaling prompt(s). The Film Journal Log has two main parts: (1) Vocabulary or a Project Related Experience in which you will need to use the workbook of supplemental materials to complete /write in the missing term definitions or complete the required project planning exercises. (2) Most importantly, Journaling Questions/Prompts to think about during the film, which you will probably answer at the end of the film. These questions will be what your journal responses are based upon. A Journal log with related prompts will be assigned for each genre covered in class and should be submitted through the google classroom.
