Storyboard Project
Objective:
With a partner, decide on an idea or topic for your storyboard project. The topic you choose can be from real life or totally made up. The storyboard each group creates must include the following stages of development: idea planning, thumbnails sketches for dialogue and scene specifics, and a final 16-panel storyboard of your chosen topic. Images on the storyboard can be photographs or drawings, but must include detailed scenes notes and dialogue. Remember that in creating a storyboard for a film the communication of information ABOUT the scene is just as important as the imagery. At the conclusion of the project, each team will choose another teams story to constructively critique. |
Project Overview & Handouts
1. Pre-Planning / Brainstorming the Idea
· Choose an individual you want to work with and using the brainstorm handout choose a topic for your storyboard. · Develop at least 2 characters for your scene · Consider a timeline for completing or meeting to work on the next stages for the project. Some time will be provided in class, but understand that it will NOT be enough to compete the entire project. 2. Thumbnails / Sketching & Dialogue
· Loosely work out the dialogue of your scene · Identify different types of shots you could use for each element of dialogue using the thumbnail sketches handouts · Begin creating detailed scene notes for dialogue and drawing (panel) combinations you feel are strong enough to keep when conveying your storyline for the final project. 3. Storyboard / Setting the Scene
· You are both the directors of the scene/story, create your final storyboard using the handouts provided. Each team will need FOUR sheets to create a 16-panel scene/story. Be sure to number all of your panels consecutively. · In each panel (box) draw or photography what you wish for the “cinematographer” to compose into the scene. · To the right of each panel, legibly write in all relevant scene notes relating to the cinematography of that scene, action notes, and dialogue. · Be sure to include a typed a film summary that will help your audience to effectively interpret the scene you decided use for the storyboard and where that scene would take place within the entirety of the film. 4. Critique
· Each individual will be required to display their project and participate in a critique and reflection of their story. |
